Why this exists
Teams has a problem: presence anxiety

The idle trap

Microsoft Teams uses activity detection to set your status. Stop typing, stop moving your mouse, and within minutes you're Away. It doesn't matter that you're on a phone call, reading a document, or thinking. To Teams, idle means absent.

For anyone using Teams, this creates constant pressure. You're doing real work — in the office, at home, or anywhere in between — but the indicator says otherwise. You start wiggling your mouse. You start worrying about what people think. You're working. Your status should reflect that.

We work directly with your Microsoft account. You sign in with Microsoft — the same way you sign in to Teams — and we handle the rest. SetStatus.io sets and maintains your status on a schedule. No tricks. No simulation. No device required.

What we do (and don't do)
  • Set your Teams presence to Available on a schedule
  • Continuously maintain it throughout the day
  • Release it outside your work hours
  • Respect Do Not Disturb and Busy statuses you set manually
  • Never access your messages, emails, or files
  • Never install anything on your device
  • Never fake mouse movement or screen activity
  • Never require a specific machine to be left on or active
The problem with current solutions

Teams marks you Away after just a few minutes of inactivity. Your colleagues see it. Your manager sees it. So you find a workaround.

Mouse jigglersHardware dongles or software that fakes mouse movement. Tied to one specific machine. The moment you step away or switch computers, you're yellow again — and IT can see it in usage logs.
Keyboard macros and button pushersScripts or physical devices that press keys on a loop. They break the moment you start actually typing, require a machine to stay unlocked and on, and are trivially detectable by your IT department.
Scheduling a meeting with yourselfYou're now "In a meeting" — not Available. Your calendar is blocked. Notifications still pile up. And you have to remember to join it every morning and leave it every evening.
Looping a GIF or auto-refreshing a spreadsheetFragile tricks that depend on how Teams detects activity this week. They break silently — you won't know it stopped working until someone asks why you've been Away for two hours.
Going offline so nobody sees the yellowHiding the problem instead of solving it. Colleagues can't reach you, managers assume the worst, and your status is now actively misleading.

Every one of these requires you to maintain it — manually, on a specific machine, every single day. Your status should just work.

How it works
How to keep Microsoft Teams status green — automatically.
1

Connect Microsoft

Sign in with your Microsoft 365 account. We connect using a single permission to set your presence status. We never read your messages, emails, or calendar.

2

Set your schedule

Tell us your work hours, work days, and timezone. Optionally configure a lunch break. We'll keep you Available during work hours and hands-off outside them.

3

Go about your day

We run in the cloud. Throughout your work hours, we continuously maintain your Available status through Microsoft's own infrastructure. No app to keep open, no computer to leave on.

What you get
Simple communication that puts you back in the driver's seat.

Work hours schedule

Set your start time, end time, and which days of the week you work. We switch on at the start and release your status at the end. Outside work hours, Teams behaves normally.

Lunch break support

Set a lunch window and we'll let your status go to Away during that time, then restore Available when the break ends. Useful when you're away from your desk mid-day.

Works directly through Microsoft — no device required

Mouse jigglers require a specific computer left running and untouched. SetStatus.io works through Microsoft's own infrastructure. Nothing touches your device. No fake activity, no screen simulation. Move between machines freely — or put them all down.

Corporate-friendly by design

Nothing to install. No fake activity signals. Your device security, screen lock, and IT policies all run exactly as configured. We connect through the same authorization model as Teams itself — it's expected and normal.

Privacy first

We request only the permission needed to set your Teams status — nothing else. We cannot read your messages, emails, files, or meeting details. Your Microsoft account data is never stored on our servers.

Self-correcting

If Teams or Microsoft resets your status, we detect it and restore it automatically. Your status is held throughout your work hours. If your Microsoft token ever expires, you'll get an email so you can reconnect immediately.

Is Teams making you look bad?
Deep work

Deep in a document, on a call, reading through a brief — your status stays green regardless. No more managers wondering where you are.

Always moving

In and out of meetings, switching machines, never at your desk for long. SetStatus.io doesn't need babysitting. Neither should your status.

Peace of mind

The mental energy that used to go on a green dot goes back into your work. At $1 a week, it's the easiest decision you'll make today.

FAQ
Good questions worth answering
I work on sensitive projects. Will this stop my computer from locking when I'm away from it?

No — and IT departments love us for this reason. SetStatus has no presence on your device at all. Your screen lock, sleep settings, and every security policy your IT team has configured all run exactly as intended. We only communicate with your Microsoft account in the cloud. Nothing on your machine is touched, bypassed, or interfered with.

Will my IT department know I'm using this?

SetStatus.io connects through Microsoft's standard authorization system — the same way Teams, Outlook, and other Microsoft apps authorize third-party integrations. It appears in your Microsoft account's connected apps list, which is expected and normal. There's nothing unusual to flag because there's nothing unusual happening.

Is this against Microsoft's Terms of Service?

No. Microsoft's developer platform explicitly supports applications that set user status on behalf of the account holder — it's a designed and documented capability. You're intentionally controlling your own status through an authorized app. That's entirely within the rules.

My company uses activity monitoring. Will this interfere with it?

No — and this is an important distinction. SetStatus works entirely through your Microsoft account, not your device. We don't simulate mouse movement, generate fake keyboard input, or send any hidden activity signals. If your company monitors keystrokes, mouse activity, or screen time, none of that is affected. What your activity monitoring sees is an accurate reflection of what you're actually doing.

What exactly can you access in my Microsoft account?

Only one permission: the ability to write your Teams presence status, and nothing else. We cannot read your emails, messages, files, calendar, contacts, or any other data. You can verify this in your Microsoft account under Apps & Services.

What happens if I'm actually in a meeting or need to show a different status?

Set your status manually in Teams — any status — and SetStatus won't touch it. Teams defaults the override to expire at end of day, after which we resume automatically. Need it back sooner? Use the Duration option in the Teams status menu to set exactly how long you need, or click Reset status to clear it immediately. Either way, we pick back up within 30 minutes.

Does it work if my computer is off or asleep?

Yes. We run entirely in the cloud — your computer isn't involved at all after initial setup. Close the lid, shut it off, leave it at home. Switch to a different machine or work from your phone. As long as your Microsoft account is connected and it's within your scheduled hours, we keep your status green from our servers.
